DaVinci Resolve is an all-in-one color grading and video editing tool which is designed primarily for professional filmmakers and vloggers.

This tool might not excite the newcomers but is a treat for veterans because of its collaboration feature that allows you to work on a project with your colleagues in real time.

And after Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci is the only video editing software that supports 8K resolution videos.

Above all, you don’t need to pay anything to make use of it. That makes it one of the most capable free option for veteran video editors.

Here’s the full list of all the exciting things about DaVinci Resolve.

DaVinci Resolve Pros

#1. While researching about DaVinci Resolve, I found a few features that are unique to this software. And one of those features is “Cut Page”.

Cut Page is the alternate editing area designed to help editors who always work on tight deadlines and need to get things done quickly.

It consists of all the functions you need to edit your clips fast and provides you the flexibility to switch to the regular editing page whenever you want to. It’s like video editing on steroids.

And I found this feature to be very handy for people like broadcasters, news editors, and even YouTubers who need a fast turnaround time.

#2. While talking about unique features, another attribute that stands out is the ability to work together with your team on the same project and chat with each member in real time.

All the other video editing software I’ve analyzed so far are made for solo usage.

But DaVinci is the only service that enables editors, VFX artists, colorists, and sound designers to come together and work on the same clip at the same time.

The only catch?

You need to upgrade to their paid version DaVinci Resolve Studio 16.

#3. With the Fairlight function, you get the luxury of a full-fledged digital audio workstation within the software.

You can use the mixer, ADR tools, sound library support, Fairlight Audio plugins, EQ and Dynamic processing to enhance the overall audio experience of your footages.

Plus, you’re allowed to mix 3D Audio formats such as Dolby Atmos, SMPTE ST 2098, Audio 3-D, and new 26 channel super bus.

#4. Wanna add feature film like effects to your production?

That’s possible with DaVinci using its Fusion feature. You can add advanced VFX effects and motion graphics with just one click.

Apart from that, with over 250 mini-tools, Fusion provides a complete 3D workspace and lets you add stunning 3D titles to your videos.

#5. Using the excellent color grading tools and scaling options of DaVinci, you can create stunning 8K ultra HD images from HD photos.

And as I’ve mentioned earlier, you can import, edit, and export 8K videos, too.

#6. I also love the sharing feature that helps you upload your videos directly to YouTube and Vimeo.

#7. There’s no limitation when it comes to device compatibility. DaVinci runs smoothly on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.

And according to the flexible license policy, it can be installed on three devices at a time, making it an ideal tool for those who own multiple devices that work on different operating systems.

DaVinci Resolve Cons

#1. The first flaw I noticed with DaVinci Resolve is its advanced functionalities that makes the app quite daunting for novice editors.

#2. Not having a mobile presence is also a critical issue with this software. It makes DaVinci an unlikely choice for someone like me who like shooting videos on the phone and quickly upload to social media platforms.

#3. At last, I was expecting to get a cloud storage facility, but unfortunately, DaVinci Resolve doesn’t have a cloud repository.

That means you have to store your files in local drives or use other cloud services.

DaVinci Resolve pricing plans and payment options

DaVinci Resolve is available for everyone for free.

But if you want the multi-user collaboration, HDR grading, Fairlight Plugins, stereoscopic 3D tools, and many other premium features, you can upgrade to DaVinci Resolve Studio 16 for just $299.

Do I recommend DaVinci Resolve?

See, if we take into account only the features, then this tool is near perfect.

But when we also consider usability, then it becomes clear that this software is built for a specific group of users.

So, if you’re just starting your video editing game, you better opt for an easy-to-use tool like OpenShot or Hitfilm Express.

And professionals! DaVinci is the real deal for you because getting the qualities of four applications in one is nearly impossible, but DaVinci gives you just that.

So, don’t miss it.
